MARK 7-8
In Mark 7, Jesus clashes with the Pharisees over man-made traditions (hand-washing rituals), calling them hypocrites for honoring God with their lips while their hearts are far from Him. He declares that nothing entering a person from outside can defile them—only what comes out of the heart does—effectively making all foods clean. He then heals the daughter of a desperate Syrophoenician (Gentile) woman because of her great faith, and miraculously opens the ears and loosens the tongue of a deaf-mute man using spit and touch.
In Mark 8, Jesus feeds a crowd of 4,000 with seven loaves and a few fish. The Pharisees demand a heavenly sign; Jesus refuses. He warns the disciples to beware the “yeast” (hypocrisy) of the Pharisees and Herod. He heals a blind man in two stages with spit, then Peter boldly confesses Jesus as the Messiah. Immediately after, Jesus shocks everyone by predicting His own suffering, death, and resurrection—rebuking Peter as Satan when he objects. Jesus closes with the radical call to deny self, take up your cross, and follow Him, warning that whoever tries to save their life will lose it.
