Chaos in Canada Today! Brutal Ice Storm Destroy Homes, Cars in Ontario

Freezing rain left parts of central and eastern Ontario under sheets of ice that downed trees and power lines and delayed travel. Areas near Orillia, Barrie and Penetanguishene were hit the hardest in the storm that started late Saturday night. A number of utility crews worked throughout Sunday to restore power to customers across the province. As of 12 p.m. on Monday, Hydro One crews restored power to more than 460,000 customers since the start of the storm that caused more than 4,000 outages. More than 400,000 Hydro One customers across the province are still without power, according to the company. The storm has suspended Canada Post delivery to areas around Barrie, Muskoka, Peterborough, Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury on Monday, the company said on social media, adding that service will return once it is safe. The power outage also disrupted train travel causing delays of at least 60 minutes for all trains operating in the Montreal-Ottawa-Toronto corridor on Sunday, according to Via Rail.
