What turned an entire forest into a desert? In the heart of the Sahara, billions of fragments of yellow-green glass lie scattered across the sand. This isn't natural glass. To turn sand into silica glass, you need a temperature of at least 1700°C. No conventional fire or weapon from the ancient world can explain it—and yet, the record shows they knew exactly what it was.

In this episode, we follow the trail of the "Glass in the Sand" from the breastplate of Tutankhamun to the ancient Sanskrit descriptions in the Mahabharata. We explore the "Green Sahara" period, where rock art depicts a living world of rivers and wildlife where only dunes exist today.
